Enrollment & Eligibility
Who Can Enroll?
A student may register at RJSVS if the following enrollment criteria are met:
Residency: Proof of Indiana residency is required (IC 20-19-9-6)
Technology Access: Reliable internet
Commitment: Students must commit to at least one full semester
Orientation: Participation in a required orientation, which includes both a virtual session with Indiana Online Academy and an in-person orientation with Rush County Schools
Parent-Student Contract: Must be signed and submitted
Families must be in good standing to enroll
When can Students Enroll?
Students may enroll only during designated registration periods leading up to the start of a semester. However, mid-semester transitions will be allowed under special circumstances, such as medical needs, special education placement, or disciplinary considerations as allowed by the IOA.
A transition to RJSVS may occur only during allowed registration periods. However, other circumstances may require a transition from the traditional learning environment to the virtual learning space. The following considerations are only examples and do not encompass all possibilities.
A family may provide credible documentation from a medical professional stating that a virtual learning environment is in the student's best interest.
A case conference committee may decide that a transition to the virtual environment is in the best interest of the student.
Disciplinarians and building administrators, in consultation with a student and their family, may decide that a virtual learning environment is in the best interest of the student.
Change of Address, Phone Number, or Custody Arrangements
It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to inform Rushville Jr/Sr Virtual School of any change of address or phone number. If you have a change of address, you are required to provide the new address and the corresponding proof of residency documentation. All information and documentation can be uploaded through Harmony Family Access. If additional assistance is needed, documentation may be brought in to be scanned and uploaded.
If there is a change of custody for the student, parents and guardians are required to provide the corrected student information, including the current custody order.
RJSVS Learning Model
Indiana Online Academy (IOA) serves as the primary provider of curriculum and instruction for Rushville Jr./Sr. Virtual School for grades 7–12. As such, families must be deeply familiar with Indiana Online Academy’s policies and expectations in addition to those outlined in this handbook. Students and parents are encouraged to review IOA’s guidelines, available at indianaonline.org.
Indiana Online Academy offers courses using two delivery methods:
LIVE Courses
(Synchronous Instruction)
ASYN Courses
(Asynchronous Instruction)
Students complete coursework independently and work at their own pace.
Teacher support is provided as needed.
Students are expected to engage in coursework daily and remain on pace with course requirements, even when not attending a live class.
The delivery method is determined by the course. A student’s weekly schedule will depend on the delivery methods of the courses in which they are enrolled. As a result, students in grades 7–12 may participate in a combination of synchronous (live instruction) and asynchronous (independent learning) courses.
Scheduling Information
All RJSVS students are required to enroll in six classes and participate in at least two LIVE classes each day.
Qualifying LIVE classes for high school students include any LIVE class offered through Indiana Online or any in-person class hosted at Rushville Consolidated High School or an affiliated CTE provider.
Qualifying LIVE classes for middle school students are the LIVE classes offered through Indiana Online. Hybrid scheduling is not available for middle school students.
Those who wish to enroll in a fully asynchronous course load must submit documentation supporting the need for asynchronous scheduling for consideration by the RJSVS administrative committee.
