Classroom Expectations

Discipline & Code of Conduct

Students must adhere to Rush County Schools’ student behavior and discipline policies as outlined in each school’s student handbook. Virtual students are considered Rush County Schools students and are held accountable to the same policies and expectations.

Cyberbullying, harassment, and academic dishonesty will result in disciplinary actions. Actions may range from loss of privileges or credit to removal from the virtual school.

Student Conduct in Virtual Learning Settings

Virtual classrooms are extensions of the school environment. Students enrolled in Rushville Jr./Sr. Virtual School are expected to conduct themselves in virtual learning settings with the same level of respect, responsibility, and professionalism expected in a traditional classroom. All Rush County Schools behavior policies apply in virtual settings.

Camera and Microphone Use

  • Students should follow teacher expectations regarding camera and microphone use.

  • Cameras may be required during instruction, assessments, or discussions to support engagement and academic integrity.

  • Microphones should remain muted unless a student is called on or participating in a discussion.

  • Students are expected to dress appropriately for school during live sessions.

Chat and Communication

  • Chat features may be used only for instructional purposes.

  • Inappropriate language, off-topic comments, spamming, or misuse of chat functions is prohibited.

  • All written and verbal communication must be respectful and appropriate.

Zoom and Virtual Classroom Etiquette

  • Students must log in using their full, correct name.

  • Students should arrive on time and remain present for the duration of the class.

  • Disruptive behaviors, including interrupting instruction, playing audio or video, making inappropriate gestures, or repeatedly leaving and rejoining sessions, are not permitted.

Recording and Privacy

  • Recording, photographing, or sharing screenshots of live classes or instructional content is strictly prohibited unless explicitly authorized by Indiana Online Academy staff.

  • Sharing class recordings, images, or information on social media or with unauthorized individuals is a violation of student privacy and school policy.

Learning Environment

  • Students should participate from a quiet, distraction-free environment whenever possible.

  • Backgrounds, whether physical or virtual, must be appropriate for a school setting.

  • The presence of unauthorized individuals during live instruction is not permitted.

Academic Integrity

Rush County Schools places a high value on authentic assessments and independent demonstrations of student learning and understanding. As such, RJSVS will adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Indiana Online Academy Student Handbook regarding matters of academic integrity.
