The Holcad and Lion’s Live students competed at the National High School Journalism Convention in Nashville, Tennessee from November 13-16. Jaydah Wallace earned Honorable Mentions in Broadcast Commercial/PSA and Brylee Shaver earned Superior in Graphic Design: Illustration as they not only competed against students nationally, but globally as well. Congratulations to both students for receiving these honors!

Students from both groups attended a trade fair that had colleges and digital storytelling companies from all over the country, as well as special sessions where industry leaders spoke on such topics as sports broadcasting and videography. Breakout sessions offered valuable learning experiences, including “Branding and Social Media Strategy for Student Media,” which focused on creating a consistent digital voice; “How to Major in Yearbook,” a session exploring college and career pathways in journalism and design; and “Chaos to Culture: Hacks for Thriving Yearbook Staff,” which gave students practical strategies for improving teamwork, organization, and production flow. We also had students take Adobe certification tests in Photoshop and Premiere Pro. All students attended special critique sessions where their projects were viewed and given feedback from judges and other students who competed in the same event.

Congratulations to the entire group for representing RCHS in a positive manner with their efforts, professional dress, attitude and behavior!

The Holcad staff in attendance included Shane Allen, Brylee Shaver, Isabella Simmermon, Londyn Whittaker, Bethany Wyrick, Cora Morgan, Alayna Schilling and Mrs. Lindsay Tillison.

The Lions Live crew in attendance included Sam Pavey, Eli Pavey, Luke Padgett, Carter Woolf, Kaleb Amos, Noah Lee, McKenna Norris, Jaydah Wallace, Jentri Wallace, Londyn Whittaker and Mrs. Amy Fox.

College Goal Sunday is a program that helps college-bound Indiana students, who qualify for undergraduate admission to a college or technical school, and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). College Goal Sunday provides assistance from financial aid experts, primarily from Indiana colleges and universities.

Most colleges, universities, and vocational/technical schools in the nation require students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA form must be received by the federal processor on or before April 15th to be considered “on-time” for Indiana state grant funding. 21st Century Scholars are required to complete and submit a FAFSA form to claim their 21st Century Scholarship. College Goal Sunday will help all college-bound students complete the FAFSA properly.

College Goal Sunday will take place at 2 p.m. (Local Time), Sunday, November 9th, 2025. The event will be held at locations across the state and begin promptly at 2 p.m. (Local Time). To find the location nearest you, visit https://collegegoalsunday.org/locations/
