The Holcad and Lion’s Live students competed at the National High School Journalism Convention in Nashville, Tennessee from November 13-16. Jaydah Wallace earned Honorable Mentions in Broadcast Commercial/PSA and Brylee Shaver earned Superior in Graphic Design: Illustration as they not only competed against students nationally, but globally as well. Congratulations to both students for receiving these honors!
Students from both groups attended a trade fair that had colleges and digital storytelling companies from all over the country, as well as special sessions where industry leaders spoke on such topics as sports broadcasting and videography. Breakout sessions offered valuable learning experiences, including “Branding and Social Media Strategy for Student Media,” which focused on creating a consistent digital voice; “How to Major in Yearbook,” a session exploring college and career pathways in journalism and design; and “Chaos to Culture: Hacks for Thriving Yearbook Staff,” which gave students practical strategies for improving teamwork, organization, and production flow. We also had students take Adobe certification tests in Photoshop and Premiere Pro. All students attended special critique sessions where their projects were viewed and given feedback from judges and other students who competed in the same event.
Congratulations to the entire group for representing RCHS in a positive manner with their efforts, professional dress, attitude and behavior!
The Holcad staff in attendance included Shane Allen, Brylee Shaver, Isabella Simmermon, Londyn Whittaker, Bethany Wyrick, Cora Morgan, Alayna Schilling and Mrs. Lindsay Tillison.
The Lions Live crew in attendance included Sam Pavey, Eli Pavey, Luke Padgett, Carter Woolf, Kaleb Amos, Noah Lee, McKenna Norris, Jaydah Wallace, Jentri Wallace, Londyn Whittaker and Mrs. Amy Fox.

Thank you to Mrs. Nicholls and Ms. McDermott for planning a powerful Veterans Day program. Cindy Parsons, from the Wounded Warrior Project, delivered a powerful message! We also took time to recognize RCHS staff members who are Veterans. Not pictured is Bill Hufford.

College Goal Sunday is a program that helps college-bound Indiana students, who qualify for undergraduate admission to a college or technical school, and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). College Goal Sunday provides assistance from financial aid experts, primarily from Indiana colleges and universities.
Most colleges, universities, and vocational/technical schools in the nation require students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, to complete the FAFSA. The FAFSA form must be received by the federal processor on or before April 15th to be considered “on-time” for Indiana state grant funding. 21st Century Scholars are required to complete and submit a FAFSA form to claim their 21st Century Scholarship. College Goal Sunday will help all college-bound students complete the FAFSA properly.
College Goal Sunday will take place at 2 p.m. (Local Time), Sunday, November 9th, 2025. The event will be held at locations across the state and begin promptly at 2 p.m. (Local Time). To find the location nearest you, visit https://collegegoalsunday.org/locations/

Please see the following write up by Richard Tracy for his Fire and Rescue Class. Our kids are getting such great experiences! Thank you Mr. Tracy for all you do with our students!
Last week the RCHS Fire and Rescue CTE class had the opportunity to attend 2 days of the Hancock county professional firefighters annual RIT/RIC (Rapid Intervention Team/Crew) exercise at Sugar Creek Township Fire Department. RIT/C crews are a team of firefighters assigned to search for and rescue an injured, lost or unconscious firefighter in an IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) environment. These exercises are meant to mimic the extremely high risks that firefighters are faced with when involved in fire suppression activities.
The exercise was meant to replicate a one story home with a full basement and hoarder conditions. Six RIT crews were deployed over a time frame ranging from 38 minutes to 50 minutes in order to locate 2 downed firefighters that were caught in a collapse of the first floor into the basement. The RIT crews would work in teams of 3 or 4 firefighters to locate, identify, manage immediate life threats, package and subsequently remove the injured or incapacitated firefighters from the collapse, through the hoarder conditions and back up stairs and out of the first floor.
Students were able to see first hand how even in a controlled and safe environment, just how much chaos a situation like this could generate. They also got a good glimpse into how the Incident Command System works by listening to all radio traffic for the exercise. Students then noted at the end of both days something they learned about their observations. Students were also tasked with assisting myself and other instructors in resetting the exercise for each group. In all, we were able to witness 4 exercises with nearly 150 different firefighters, different leadership styles and different tactics to accomplish a mission. After the exercises on Thursday, students were able to navigate their way through a 4 level SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) confidence course at their pace and to their level of comfort.
All said, this was a great two days for students to see first hand the work that goes into planning, implementing and participating in these types of training exercises. They each acquired valuable knowledge that will help them in class as we move forward.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the RCHS staff, administration, Sugar Creek Township Fire, Buck Creek Township Fire, Vernon Township Fire and Greenfield Fire Departments for allowing the students to observe and assist. A special shout out to Lt. Keithley and the Sugar Creek Township Officers for accommodating us as well.
