Dear RCS Families and Staff,

On Tuesday evening the RCS Board of Trustees approved an adjustment to our Opening of School Plan. The change involves a new system for determining if masks/face covering will be required. From this point forward masks/face coverings will required if the following data points are met:

  1. If a building/corporation reaches 5% of students positive then we would do a mask mandate for that building or corporation for a minimum of two weeks.
  2. If a building/corporation reaches 20% of students positive, we would look at closure or e-learning for that building/corporation.
The following county data points will be implemented:
  1. 7 Day County positivity rate >/= 10% - Mandatory Masking in buildings for a minimum of two weeks.
  2. 7 Day County positivity rate >/= 20% - Possible School Closure/E-Learning

At this time we do not meet any of the above metrics, therefore masks/face coverings are now recommended but not required.

Please note the following:

  • This is subject to change.
  • Other factors such as staffing could impact operations.
  • This will be reviewed weekly.
  • Students and Staff who are symptomatic, or waiting on test results should stay home from school.
  • We will follow the Control Measures for contact tracing set by the Indiana Department of Health. Those who are identified as close contacts through contact tracing will be notified and could be subject to quarantine.
  • The federal bus mandate for masks on buses is still in place.
  • There are 3 ways that one can be exempt from quarantine:
    • Be fully vaccinated
    • If tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days
    • When a mask is being worn during the school day by the individual deemed in close contact.

We are trying to keep our students and staff safe and healthy while keeping schools open and as normal as possible. Your continued cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated.

 Dear RCS Families and Staff,

Last evening the RCS Board of Trustees approved an adjustment to our Opening of School Plan. The change involves a requirement for face coverings/masks to be worn inside of our facilities effective Thursday September 9th. This is a result of several factors which include:

  • Last Week Governor Holcomb issued an Executive Order stating that all schools must follow the Control Measure in place from the Indiana Department of Health. This left us with the choice of either quarantining all unvaccinated close contacts or requiring face coverings/masks. Up to this point our number of students who were deemed in close contact is over 600. Our goal is to keep kids in school and students/staff from being quarantined. Those who are identified as close contact in a classroom and are not showing symptoms will not be required to quarantine. Close contacts will still be identified and parents will be notified. This Order is currently in effect until September 30th. The federal mandate for face coverings/masks to be worn on school buses is in effect currently until January.
  • Our number of positive students increased significantly in the last week, as well as our number of positives in Rush County. Area hospitals are starting to see an increase in activity as well with positive patients.
  • We work closely with the Rush County Health Department on our procedures, and the recommendation has been made for us to implement a face covering/masking requirement.

Face coverings/masks will be a requirement at RCS until September 30th. This could change if the Governor's Order is extended or our local situation makes us feel it is necessary. We are trying to keep our students and staff safe and healthy while keeping schools open and as normal as possible. We are attempting to avoid a closure/virtual setting. I understand this may not be a popular decision for some. Your continued cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Matt Vance, Superintendent

Dear Elementary Principals and Elementary Parents, We at RCHS would like to invite you to the 2021 RCHS Holiday Fair on Saturday, December 4th! The RCHS Holiday Fair is an opportunity for the elementary-aged children of Rush County to enjoy the spirit of the holiday season with fun crafts, games, and activities provided by various organizations within RCHS. Santa will also be in attendance! This year the Holiday fair will be on Saturday, December 4th in the RCHS cafeteria. Much like last year, we plan to continue to have families pre-register on the attached “Sign-Up Genius” for one of the three-time slots. 9am, 10am or 11am. This allows for an even and orderly flow to the event and helps families organize their timeline for the day. (will last approximately 50 minutes). The cost of the event is $2 per child. (Although some tables may have more crafts available for an additional cost) Here are some important guidelines to help everyone have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Fair experience. 1 - Each Family attending must signup for a time slot using our SignUp Genius (link below). There are 3 different time slots available 9 - 9:50 AM, 10 - 10:50 AM, and 11 - 11:50 AM. (We can accommodate 8 - 10 families during each time slot) 2 - Children must be accompanied by at least 1 adult (up to 3) and up to 3 children can sign up in the same family for a single time slot. 3 - Every person attending (adults and children) will need to adhere to the current masking mandate at the time of the event. (Will be posted at the registration table) 4 - Each family will start at a designated table and move from table to table to keep the event moving in an orderly manner and help with social distancing. 5. - Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointed time as to not miss any table or activity. Below you will find a URL for our signup page. Feel free to forward this to friends and family. Don’t forget to plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before their scheduled time and enter through the Northeast door of the RCHS cafeteria.
